Early Spring- 2008
April 9-Following a winter with the second highest snow
total, northern Illinois is experiencing a very cool damp spring.
Pruning at Sugar River Vineyard has been delayed nearly two weeks
from past years. There has been significant bud damage in some
of the less cold hardy varieties such as Traminette, Seyval, Vignoles,
Canadice, and Himrod. The extent of this damage is unknown as
yet, and won't fully be know until the bud break of undamaged
buds occurs.
